"He said to his disciples, The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields."
Matthew 9:37-38
We are living in wonderful times of harvest right now. There seems to be an acceleration of souls being saved, of disciples being made, and God is opening doors all over the world for evangelism and mass Gospel Campaigns. Even in countries that are hostile to the Christian faith, the Gospel is still moving in power. Some of the fastest-growing churches in the world are in Iran and China, with precious souls being saved at an incredible rate!
Looking at the big global picture can feel overwhelming. Let us encourage you as you read this! Ask the Lord to use you. Pray and say to the Lord, "Here I am, Lord, send me." Your harvest field might be the marketplace, the office you work in, the community center you volunteer at, the sports club you belong to, your neighbors you live next to, the shopping mall you visit, or through many other day-to-day activities and commitments you can have. When we break it down to our day-to-day level, we can see the many opportunities available to us. We can then pray for the Lord to use us powerfully to shine His light in the darkness around us.
"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father" (Matthew 5:13-16). These are the words of Jesus to the masses. He declared that we are salt and light!
We need to let the light of the Lord shine through us. When we look at the opportunities the Lord has given us in our daily lives to share the Good News, we truly see that the harvest is great. Today, we have the incredible privilege and honor to serve Jesus in building His Kingdom. Pray that you will be part of the workforce. Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel with the people around you. Pray that the Holy Spirit will use you to be salt and light to bring change and transformation!
Now is the time to bring in the harvest. When you pray to the Lord of the harvest to send more workers, don't be surprised that God may just send you into the field that you had not yet considered available to you!
